Over the last years several amateur radio enthusiasts have themed up with local Scout Groups and helped them to set up the required radio links.

In particular contact with Scouts in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa who would during 2008 also be celebrating their 100th year of Scouting should be established.

Diary for 2008

The Scout Association of Malta celebrates 100 years since its formation
Although 2007 is a special year for our Association as a member of the World-Wide Movement as it marks the birth of Scouting, the year 2008 is equally important for the Scout Association of Malta as it marks the birth of Scouting in Malta.

Scouting was introduced in Malta in 1908, and the first Troops were formed in 1909. The Malta Boy Scouts Association, as it was then known, was formed on November 9, 1908 and officially recognised, as was the procedure then, exactly a year later. The Association consisting of 150 boys in six (6) Troops was on September 15, 1913 registered as a branch of The Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom with the objective of developing Scouting in Malta. Read our historical
note.

At its meeting of July 2005, the National Scout Council established a 100th Anniversary Celebrations Committee tasked with the planning and co-ordination of the events that will take place in 2007 and 2008. The Committee commenced its work immediately thereafter, drew up a tentative programme of events and activities, established a number of sub-committees to take care of special areas in support of its programme as well as established a number of Event Committees tasked with the actual organisation of the particular events.
