When announcing the
establishment of the Award to the distinguished audience present at the
Founder's Day reception, the Chief Scout said that "as an
Association we are conscious that one of the great challenges facing
Malta today is the preservation of our rich cultural heritage - our
historic sites and monuments which stretch back 7000 years in our
history. The Scout Movement has always been one of the pioneer movements
supporting Malta's heritage and today, I have the pleasure to announce
that together with Din l-Art Helwa, we are on our way in establishing
the Din l-Art Helwa Heritage Scout Award." He continued to explain
that this initiative is being set up on the same lines as the
Environmental Award scheme and will be open to all Groups, adding that
it "should provide all of us with the great chance of helping in
the preservation of our heritage for the benefit of the whole country
and generations still to come".
Finally, the Chief Scout augured that "as members
of the Scout Movement, all of us will do our best to encourage our young
members to gain the Award and to be proud wearers of the badge so as to
show, to one and all, that we do care about our heritage and that we are
doing something about it. By doing this, we will be doing our duty
towards our country which, after all, is what we have promised to do
when we made our Scout Promise".
